Virginia Credit Repair Laws

If you live in Virginia and are seeking credit repair services through a firm or attorney, the following laws apply

  • Credit repair services may not charge and/or collect a fee for referring consumers to a retail seller who may or may not extend credit that is substantially the same terms as those that are already available to the general public.
  • Credit repair services must post an information service that includes the following notice – “You have no obligation to pay any fees or charges until all services have been performed completely for you.” The notice must be printed in at least 10-point bold type and be posted in an area that is noticeable and readable during the interview.
  • When canceling the credit repair service, any payment made must be returned within 10 days of receipt of cancellation notice. You should ensure that the notice is in writing and sent certified return receipt or you have a signed and dated receipt of the cancellation notice.

Repairing your service is a must in today’s credit controlled world. Just make sure that you don’t get ripped off during the process.
