Vermont Credit Repair Laws
Consumers in Vermont wanting to use a credit repair firm to repair their bad credit need to know that Vermont credit repair laws (Vt. Stat. Ann. tit. 8, §§ 4861 to 4876) do give some level of extra protection above federal laws.
The following bad credit repair laws apply to the state of Vermont only and may change depending on new laws passed since this blog post has been published.
- Bad credit repair services must state in writing all services it will perform and all fees consumers will pay; state that debt adjustment plans are not suitable for all debtors; disclose if creditors may compensate the licensee; disclose the right to cancel within 3 days, without penalty; and make these disclosures in the language used to negotiate the agreement.
- Credit repair services may not engage in false or deceptive advertising or communications, threaten to disclose information about debt, or charge more than a $50 initial fee plus ten percent of payments received from the debtor for distribution to creditors.
