Texas Credit Repair Laws

Consumers in Texas wanting to use a credit repair firm to repair their bad credit need to know that Texas credit repair laws (Tex. Fin. Code Ann. §§ 393.001 to 393.505) do give consumers some protection above federal laws.

The following bad credit repair laws apply to the state of Texas and may have changed depending on new laws passed since this blog post has been published.

- Credit repair service may not charge or collect a fee for referring consumer to a retail seller who will or may extend credit that is on substantially the same terms as those available to the general public.
- Credit repair service must disclose a complete and accurate statement of the availability of nonprofit budget and debt counseling services.
- When cancelling bad credit services, any payment must be returned within 10 days of receipt of cancellation notice.
- There is a 180 day time limit for performing credit repair services
