Credit Reporting Time Limit
You are probably aware that there is a seven year credit reporting time limit on how long a creditor can report a negative entry on your credit report, but do you know what the minimum is?
There is no minimum time limit! That’s right, no where in the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) do they give a minimum credit reporting time limit. They only give a maximum of seven years. So the next time you dispute something and they tell you that the negative entry must stay on your credit report for seven years, ask for proof. Tell them that you want proof of a minimum credit reporting time limit. Guess what, they will not find it.
